Support our Hardship Fund

We estimate that there are around 3,000 destitute asylum seekers in Leeds: people whose application has been refused but who cannot be returned home, because it is unsafe or because they cannot get the necessary travel documents to return home. People in this situation cannot claim state benefits and are also banned from working to support themselves.

LASSN operates a Hardship Fund to provide limited financial support to those in greatest need. The Hardship Fund provides a small weekly allowance for destitute asylum seekers who have no other income.

In 2008 the Hardship Fund made 927 subsistence donations to 173 asylum seekers, including 24 children with their parent(s). Although the amount of support for each person is very small it provides a vital lifeline to people in desperate situations. For many people it can mean the difference between a hot meal and nothing to eat.

We receive no grants or government funding for the Hardship Fund, and every penny we raise comes entirely from the generosity of our supporters. We need to raise £2,000 EVERY MONTH. All donations we receive are very much appreciated and will directly benefit asylum seekers in Leeds.
